Never has the field of psychotherapy been filled with such hope and promise. From the world of neuroscience we are learning of the astonishing capability of the human brain and nervous system for plasticity and renewal. At the same time, the fields of psychology and other applied sciences are detailing the role of the body, movement and interpersonal connection in healing the deepest psychological wounds. These tracks of inquiry, while previously parallel, are beginning to intersect in a place long familiar to dance/movement therapists: body and movement as pathway to resilience, healing and connectedness.
Thus, this year’s conference theme is a call to dance/movement therapists to make explicit the knowledge we have known implicitly for 60+ years.
